Colour Run and Active Games @ Albany WA

Thank You for Making the Albany

Active Colour Games 2023 a great Success!

The Active Farmers Games 2023 brought our community together once again, and it was an absolute blast! We'd like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors, volunteers, and contributors who made this event possible. Your support and enthusiasm helped us create a day filled with adventure, camaraderie, and vibrant colours.

This year, we added a unique twist to the event, allowing participants to choose their adventure. Whether you joined the Active Games Challenge, conquered the obstacle course, or took part in the Color Fun Run, we hope you had an unforgettable experience. Some even took on both challenges! Everyone received a free T-shirt to get muddy and colourful, making the day even more special.

We want to express our gratitude to the City of Albany, The Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries and Rio Tinto for their unwavering support in making the Color Fun Run an unforgettable experience. The untimed walk, jog, or run through the obstacle course, with canons showering participants in a rainbow of colours, was a highlight of the day.

The Active Games Challenge, with over 30 obstacles, provided an opportunity for participants to showcase their skills and compete for prizes. Thank you to all the teams that put their speed, creativity, and teamwork to the test. It was a day of excitement, laughter, and friendly competition.

We also appreciate everyone who chose to camp on-site, adding an extra layer of adventure to their Active Farmers Games experience. It's moments like these that truly make our community stronger and more connected.

Our sincere thanks go out to our sponsors, volunteers, and contributors, who played a vital role in making this event possible. Your support allows us to continue to bring our community together and create memorable experiences. We couldn't have done it without you!

A big shout-out to our event participants who embraced the spirit of the Active Farmers Games with energy and enthusiasm. Your passion for fun and fitness is what makes this event so special.

Thank you to our sponsors, the City of Albany, The Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, Rio Tinto, Wellington and Reeves, Sumitomo Chemical, Elders and Class. Shout out to our contributors, ACE Photography, Chris Idle from Idle Timing, Southern Site Hire, Wacky Golf Albany, Stirling Ranges Beef, Eyerite Signs, The St Johns’ Ambulance crew, and Andrew Bradshaw.

Stay tuned for updates on upcoming events, as we're already looking forward to the next colourful adventure in 2024. Thank you once again for being a part of the Active Farmers Games 2023, and we can't wait to see you all again next year!

Active Farmers 5 Year Anniversary Ball

What a night! A huge thank you to all our guests, sponsors, trainers, participants and supporters of Active Farmers over the past 5 years and playing a part in us reaching the milestone of 5 years of Active Farmers as a health promotion charity.

For those that were able to attend our Anniversary Ball at “Gundouran” on September 1 and celebrate in person, thank you for bringing so much positive energy and enthusiasm to the event, the night was made magical by your presence.

The purpose of our event was to celebrate the strong foundation of Active Farmers, built up over the past 5 years, communicate our future plans and to fundraise. We can confirm that all three of those objectives were met!

We estimate that we raised nearly $70,000 on the night, and with these proceeds this will be enable us to set up and run approximately 10 small farming communities for 12 months which is incredible.

Here is a link to some event photos by Sally Mac Photography. Please feel free to circulate among your networks.

A heart felt thank you goes to SO many special people, including our event sponsors, suppliers, auction and raffle contributors and our incredible organising committee of volunteers. All of you helped in making our Anniversary Ball such a successful event.

Active Farmers Sports Lunch @ Sydney

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who joined us on Friday, June 23, 2023, for the inaugural Active Farmers Sports Lunch at the exquisite Fullerton Hotel in Sydney. At this event, we had the opportunity to promote Active Farmers and convey our message of "Building a stronger and more resilient farming community in Rural Australia" to our urban friends.

Our Master of Ceremonies, Nick McArdle from Channel 9 and Stan Sport, engaged in enlightening conversations with cricketing legends Kerry O'Keefe and Lisa Sthaleker, along with Rugby Commentator and Ex Wallaby, Justin Harrison. The entertainment was elevated by the captivating performance of Murray Hartin, a renowned Australian poet, who skillfully transported the audience through laughter, tears, and vivid imagery with his unique storytelling.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all the attendees and sponsors for their support and contribution. Thank you for making the event a resounding success, and we hope to continue this journey of strengthening and empowering our farming communities across Australia.

RUN FOR RESILIENCE

Bridgewater, Victoria

Sunday 7 May 2023

Bridgewater Recreation Reserve

On Sunday 7 May we held our  Run 4 Resilience event in Bridgewater! We saw 300 walkers and runners enjoying a spectacular day, albeit the coldest May day in 26 years!  In its second year, it was it brilliant to see so many people come together for a great day out in Bridgewater.  With our youngest participant still in nappies and our oldest at 95, the Run 4 Resilience was truly a family day out.

The event is designed to provide a challenging, fun and family friendly event for the community to look forward to. In a world where it's hard to find the time and motivation to keep active, this event provided the inspiration required for the local and surrounding communities. The Run 4 Resilience  also provided the community with an opportunity to get together, have some fun and enjoy the community connection especially after the October 2022 Floods.

The 21km runners set off from Inglewood as they started their journey along the Bullabul Trail.  Winding their way through the bush, farmland and along the Loddon River as they made their way to the finish line in Bridgewater, whilst the event is non-competitive there were some impressive times with several runners finishing within 1.5hrs!

Competitors in the 10km enjoyed scenic run winding along the banks of the Loddon River and there was a sea of pink as the largest field took to the 5k course in Fittys 5.  Fittys 5 was dedicated to the late Active Farmer Lesley ‘Fitty’ Morrison. Passing suddenly in 2021 Lesley was our biggest advocate, in helping bring this event to life.  To be able to bring Lesley's family, friends and communities together in such a positive way was so uplifting and beautiful.  Lesleys’ spirit was felt on the day, from the Inglewood CFA who marshalled the course, to her children's school - St Mary's Primary who cooked the BBQ - there were little touches of Lesley everywhere. Our medals this year where custom made pink cattle tags - pink being Lesley’s favourite colour and of course the Active Farmers farming touch!

Without our generous sponsors including our major sponsor Inglewood & District Community Bendigo Bank and incredible volunteers the day would not be possible. From the run to the live music and kids' entertainment (the lambs being the biggest hit), the Bridgwater Run 4 Resilience was a wholesome community event.

Money raised from this event (approximately $10,500) will be invested back into our Active Farmers network and will go toward continued support of the local Active Farmers communities around Bridgewater, and establishment of new communities. A huge thank you to all of our wonderful supporters for helping us raise much needed funds and for making this an affordable event for the whole family to enjoy.

ABOUT THE EVENT

We know there are significant benefits to both physical and mental health when we are physically fit and have a challenge to work towards. This event will also provide the community with an opportunity to get together, have some fun and enjoy the community connection. It is important to note that this event is governed by Victoria Health and any Covid restrictions that are in place at the time, and may be postponed at any time up to the actual event.

IN MEMORY OF LESLEY

On the 25/5/21 our hearts where broken when Lesley Morrison tragically lost her life. Lesley was a farmers wife, a mother to three beautiful kids and a community powerhouse. Active Farmers bought Lesley into our lives 4yrs ago when she joined classes at Bridgewater. Although rather short in stature, when she arrived at class she would fill the room with her huge smile and outrageously colourful active wear! She was kind, generous and beautiful. In life she had overcome some huge battles and we where all in awe of her determination and resilience as she spent the past 3yrs recovering from horrific burns. She found a way around any obstacle and never quit. Behind the scenes Lesleys was working hard to bring our two townships together (Inglewood & Bridgewater) to deliver a fantastic ‘Run for Resilience’. No small feat, but she was so passionate about Active Farmers and wanted to share ‘it’ with everyone. And she had sneakily signed up to the 5k a week prior to her passing.

So we are honoured to announce that the ‘Bridgewater Run for Resilience’ will be dedicated to Lesley, and the 5k course will be named ‘Fittys 5’ in honour of our little Active Farmer Lesley ‘Fitty’ Morrison. Finisher medals will be hung on a pink zebra striped ribbon - representing both Lesleys famously colourful active wear and the brightness she bought into our lives.

Why

This is a fundraising ride for Active Farmers, with the aim to raise funds to assist Active Farmers communities, across Australia. Our mission is to build stronger and more resilient farming communities.  We aim to provide farmers with motivational, challenging and fun training sessions to help promote great physical health and mental wellbeing, and that suit all levels of fitness and experience. This ride will help raise awareness of the impact on physical and mental health.
Whether you're in it for a fun day out, or to achieve a personal goal, make every second on the route count by fundraising as part of your ride. Every little bit of fundraising counts, however, we are aiming to have each rider raise in excess of $250.

We are excited to have Kent Williams from entoure.com.au on board to facilitate the event.  100% of the money raised will go to assist over 60 existing Active Farmers communities, as well as facilitate the introduction of more throughout Australia!

It costs $7,000 per community annually to cover trainers, equipment, venue hire, workshops and education.

Here at Active Farmers we rely on the generosity of our supporters to be able to help those in need. Funds raised through events like Active Farmers Cherry 'Ride for Resilience' are crucial in enabling us to continue our work in the community.

Event Summary

The Active Farmers’ Run for Resilience is designed to provide a challenging, fun and family-friendly event. In a world where it's hard to find the time and motivation to keep active, this event provided the inspiration required for the local and surrounding communities.

The recent effects of widespread flooding in Victoria and southern NSW saw this year’s Run for Resilience @ Table Top NSW rescheduled from 23rd October to Sunday 20th November in the hope that the wet weather conditions may dry out. The day was set to be enjoyed by more than 200 participants, volunteers and spectators, however, mother nature decided that the event this year was meant to be wet - and wet it was! This did not deter the brave who rolled up to get involved (and dirty) and enjoy every bit of this fun-filled day.

The spectacular venue of Paintball Albury-Wodonga, east of Gerogery, added to the day’s success. The 10km and 21km running trails started at the Paintball Centre and wound their way up into the hills of Table Top Mountain, crossing over creeks to the convention centre and old open-air chapel. From here the participants were able to take in the beautiful views as they looped and headed back down the trail to the start.

The 5km trail was full of fun, laughs and families, with many of the kids showing the adult participants up!

A huge thank you to Roger, Hamish and James Paterson for allowing Active Farmers to use their property to host this year’s event.

In addition to the trail runs, kids enjoyed face-painting, balloons, music and more. Many lucky people went home with prizes generously donated by RB Sellars, Alex Berry Fine Wines, Gill’d Albury and Monumental Icecreamery.

Thank you to Jade Smith Photography for capturing the moments of the day, Alpine Timing for timing the runners, the VRA for their attendance in ensuring everyone’s safety, Barefoot Barista Coffee, Twin City Classic Vehicle Club and Henty Bakery for serving up a delicious barbecue brunch. Caroline Spinelli Face Painting and Glen Lieskey’s Transport.

A special mention also to our local event co-ordinator and Active Farmers’ trainer, Allana Hayes and her right-hand people, Andrew and Marion Vile who were on the ground in the organisation of this event.

The Run for Resilience events such as this one at Table Top, can not go ahead without the support of our sponsors who see the benefit in what Active Farmers aim to achieve in providing small farming communities with motivational, challenging and fun training sessions to help promote great physical health and mental wellbeing. Our 2022 Run For Resilience @ Table Top sponsors includes NSW Government, MH Premium Farms, Moorong Veterinary Clinic, Bush and Campbell Accountants, Gallagher Insurance and Essential Energy. A huge thank you for your generous contributions, they are greatly appreciated.

Active Games Western Australia proudly brought to you by David Grays Aglink

EVENT WRAP UP

On Saturday 8 October we held our 2nd Active Games in Western Australia in Torbay.

We saw 60 teams and over 20 kids enjoying a spectacular day. The 2022 WA Active Games brought in teams from all over, including Kellerberrin, Woodanilling, Katanning, Albany and Ongerup just to name a few. Some teams arrived the night before and set up camp, others came and set up on the morning, all were met with beautiful sunshine and lots of exciting obstacles.

All the teams had finished up around 4:20pm allowing the kids course to be opened. Over 20 kids lined up and took to the course like fish to water. It was great to see the kids and adults help each other throughout the obstacle course with outreached hands and encouraging voices seen and heard everywhere; very much in the spirit of Active Farmers.

Once the kids had finished, event organiser, Boyd Rae, stood under the David Grays marquee and announced the days best times for all catagories, along with best dressed prizes, oldest combined team prize and the Sumitomo spirit award which was given to the only participant that was injured due to a rolled ankle and a volunteer that went above and beyond.

Live band The Numbats cranked up to signify the end of the day and the start of the Active Games Sundowner. Many Participants settled in to enjoy some more BBQ from the Elders BBQ Trailer and some live music.

The amazing photographers from Ace Photography Camera Club captured how much fun and enjoyment was had by all, click on the link below to enjoy more of their beautiful images.

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors and our volunteers for helping us run another successful event. Without your support we wouldn’t be able to host such events across Australia.

'Run for Resilience' @ Dunedoo 2022

The ‘Run for Resilience’ event was designed to provide a challenging, fun and uplifting day for the Dunedoo and surrounding communities to look forward to. We know that there have been several challenges faced by the community of Dunedoo -  from drought to bushfires to mice & Covid-19, this community really needed something uplifting to bring everyone together for some fun!

The weather held out for us and the event achieved exactly what it set out to do. There was an incredibly uplifting and positive environment with lots of smiles, laughter and the look of happiness that set in once participants crossed the finish line.

It was fantastic to see families and a range of participants of all shapes, sizes and age come out to participate and lend a hand. The Dunedoo community truly is unique and it was evident on the day and the lead up to the event that there is an amazing sense resilience and community connectedness, this is something that every farming community needs!

Active Farmers would like to thank everyone involved in making this event such a great success including participants, volunteers, the committee and of course the sponsors. Without your help this magical day would not have been possible!

We know there are significant benefits to both physical and mental health when we are physically fit and have a challenge to work towards. This event will also provide the community with an opportunity to get together, have some fun and enjoy the community connection.

Active Farmers Games WA 2021

Mud, water, hill climbs, balance beams, slippery slides, sand bag carries, tyre climbs, tunnels, mazes, gates, cargo nets, pontoons and even a giant see-saw! All eyes were on the 150 participants that were about to embark on an epic obstacle course designed to challenge, excite and encourage team work.  Building on the already electric atmosphere, a storm brewed in the far distance as competitors lined up to begin their trial. Rolling thunder sent the first team on their way and signaling the beginning the Albany Active Farmers Games 2021!

Would we have to cancel the event at the last minute due to lighting fears? Not today. Following the roll of thunder, beams of light broke through the clouds as the weather eerily embodied the excitement and emotions of the day.

The next two hours saw teams slip, slide, scramble and succeed in overcoming the 30 obstacles designed to challenge even the most competitive of people. Crossing the finish line, competitors with mud, sand and water all over them, hugged, cheered and had the biggest smiles ever as they congratulated each other on completing the Active Farmers Games obstacle course.

This event could not have gone ahead without all the support form all the sponsors, major and minor, along with the help from over 40 volunteers, allowing the event to run smoothly. All of which said that they will be back and would love to compete as well! A huge thank you to the committee and Rae family for all their hard work.

All involved said that they would be back and cannot wait for next year’s event, of which will be bigger, better and even more fun! Laughter and stories of how people overcome the obstacles rang out into the night as everyone enjoyed live music, food and company.

What a great way to stay physically and mentally fit. An amazingly successful day, thanks to Active Farmers Manager Boyd Rae and his Active Games committee - and all the participants who joined in on the fun. See you next year!

This program has been enabled by the support of H V McKay Charitable Trust, and all of our generous Active Farmers sponsors and donors. We are incredibly grateful to have such overwhelming support for the physical & mental health of our farming communities.

It is well researched that keeping physically active and socially connected are two things that can have a positive impact on not only physical health, but also mental health and resilience. We know that our farming communities are constantly facing challenges outside of our control such as; droughts, fires, floods, mice and now Covid-19 - therefore we thought everyone needs something positive to look forward to!

The communities participating in this program are;

Mental Health First Aid course @ Hay

ATTENTION ACTIVE FARMERS @HAY!

In conjunction with RAMPH we are pleased to announce that Faith Rogers will be running a FREE Mental Health First Aid course!

Honestly, this course really is something everyone should do at some stage. Half the population will experience some form of mental illness in their lifetime and 1 in 5 each year. This means that you are most likely to be impacted individually or know someone close to you who will experience a mental illness throughout your lifetime. This is why having an understanding of mental illness and skills to know what to do is so important.

We are so grateful to be able to work alongside RAMPH to bring this fantastic program to so many of our Active Farmers communities.

What: FREE Mental Health First Aid Course

When: 24th - 25th June, 9-4pm

Where: Tapper Agri Services, Hay

Who: The entire local and surrounding community is welcome, including those not currently participating in the Active Farmers program

*RSVP is essential - contact Marliese Heffernan (Active Farmers) 0414 398 568 or Jade Auldist (Active Farmers) on 0401 493 526 BY 17TH JUNE to reserve your spot.

If you are in the Hay area please do not miss out on this opportunity! Huge thank you to our Active Farmers trainer Jade Auldist for taking the initiative to get this workshop off the ground and for Faith Rogers for delivering another program for Active Farmers!

'Run For Resilience' 2021 @ DUNEDOO NSW

We are super excited to announce our second Active Farmers Run for Resilience event for 2021 @ Dunedoo, to be held Sunday 6th June 2021.

This event will be very similar to our inaugural ‘Run for Resilience’ @Mangoplah, and the recent event @Temora where 230 participants enjoyed a cross country style running and walking event. Both events were a great day with excellent feed-back and we were able to ensure the event was Covid-safe.

We know Dunedoo experienced a prolonged drought, bushfires and recently restrictions imposed by Covid-19. We therefore really wanted to plan something positive and uplifting for this special community to look forward to!

There will be something for everyone;

  • 21km running event

  • 10km running and walking event

  • 5km running and walking event, including kids and prams

  • Delicious brunch & coffee

The event will start at the Sports Club, heads around the Golf course and then traverse through four neighbouring farms, and its going to be amazing!!

And a huge thank you to our local Active Farmers trainer, Tracey Mathews and the local committee for your efforts in getting this event happening!

'Run For Resilience' @ Temora March 2021

'Run For Resilience' @ Temora March 2021

We are super excited to announce our next Active Farmers event, Run for Resilience @Lake Centenary Temora, to be held Sunday 14th March 2021!

We have made the difficult decision to postpone the third Active Farmers Games that were planned for the same weekend and location, due to the current health & safety requirements to be considered Covid-safe. A big part of the Games is team-work, specifically the ability to get through challenging obstacles with the help of your team. This aspect makes socially distancing difficult, and in very volatile times we are not confident that the current social distancing requirements will be lifted by March 2021.

It is important to note that the Games will be back! With all things going well we will endeavour to have them up and running again in March 2022 at Lake Centenary, Temora.

As a compromise, because we do understand this is very disappointing news we have decided to substitute the Games with our newest style event, Run for Resilience’.

The inaugural ‘Run for Resilience’ was designed to provide a challenging, fun and family friendly event at Mangoplah, NSW. In a world where it's hard to find the time and motivation to keep active, this event provided the inspiration required for the local and surrounding communities. This event involved 5km, 10km and 21km running and walking distances, enjoyed by 239 participants of all ages and ability, including children through local farmland. It was a great day with excellent feed-back and we were able to ensure the event was Covid-safe.

Given all of the above we believe that this decision will provide the Temora and surrounding communities with an event to look forward to, whilst keeping everyone safe and sound.

Active Farmers 'Run For Resilience'

The inaugural ‘Run for Resilience’ is designed to provide a challenging, fun and family friendly event to look forward to in Spring. In a world where it's hard to find the time and motivation to keep active, an event like this can provide the inspiration required, especially over winter and in isolation.

We know there are significant benefits to both physical and mental health when we are physically fit and have a challenge to work towards. The event will also provide the community with an opportunity to get together, have some fun and enjoy the community connection.

There will be something for everyone, with several routes to run and walk, kids activities and a delicious brunch.

The routes will start at the Mangoplah Footy Ground, then head cross country through some local farms and back to finish at the Footy Ground.

It is important to note that this event will be postponed if the current social isolation restrictions have not been lifted.

ROUTES:

  • 5km* - suitable for runners**, walkers, kids and it will be pram friendly!

  • 10km* - suitable for runners** and walkers

  • Half marathon (21km)* - suitable for runners only**

* distances may vary to the above and will be confirmed prior to the day
** all runners will be timed
