ACTIVE FARMERS
’RUN FOR RESILENCE’
Bridgewater, Victoria
Sunday 15th May 2022
The inaugural ‘Run for Resilience’ was designed to provide a challenging, fun and family friendly event at Mangoplah, NSW in October 2020. In a world where it's hard to find the time and motivation to keep active, this event provided the inspiration required for the local and surrounding communities. This event involved 5km, 10km and 21km running and walking distances, enjoyed by 239 participants of all ages and ability, including children through local farmland. It was a great day with excellent feed-back and we were able to ensure the event was Covid-safe.
There will be something for everyone at the ‘Run for Resilience’ @Bridgewater, with several routes to run and walk, kids activities (subject to Covid) and a delicious brunch available.
21km (runners only) - Beginning at the Inglewood Recreation Reserve at 8.00am you will follow the Bullabul trail to Bridgewater. You will weave your way through picturesque bushland before emerging into the open planes. Here you will enjoy views of Mt Kooyoora, farming land, rail and creek crossings, before entering the township of Bridgewater. This part of the course follows the beautiful Loddon River as you make your way to the finish line at the Bridgewater Recreation Reserve. Majority of this run is on dirt trails (some smoother than others) with a small section of pavement. NB: There will be a shuttle bus from Bridgewater Recreation Reserve to the Inglewood Recreation Reserve for all 21km participants.
10km (suitable for runners & walkers) - Beginning at the Bridgewater Recreation Reserve at 9.00am you will head towards the Loddon River and wind your way along its stunning banks. The course is an out and back loop so you won't miss a thing! Keep an eye out for our resident platypus! The terrain is a mixture of dirt tracks and pavement.
5km (suitable for all ages & fitness levels, including 4WD/off road prams) - An out and back course beginning at the Bridgewater Recreation Reserve starting at 9.30am. From the footy oval you will head towards the Loddon River and wind your way along the bank, turning around at the Loddon Bridge Hotel to make your way back to the finish line!
We believe that this event will provide Bridgewater and surrounding communities with an event to look forward to, whilst keeping everyone safe and sound.
ABOUT THE EVENT
We know there are significant benefits to both physical and mental health when we are physically fit and have a challenge to work towards. This event will also provide the community with an opportunity to get together, have some fun and enjoy the community connection. It is important to note that this event is governed by Victoria Health and any Covid restrictions that are in place at the time, and may be postponed at any time up to the actual event.
ANNOUNCEMENT - IN MEMORY OF LESLEY
On the 25/5/21 our hearts where broken when Lesley Morrison tragically lost her life. Lesley was a farmers wife, a mother to three beautiful kids and a community powerhouse. Active Farmers bought Lesley into our lives 4yrs ago when she joined classes at Bridgewater. Although rather short in stature, when she arrived at class she would fill the room with her huge smile and outrageously colourful active wear! She was kind, generous and beautiful. In life she had overcome some huge battles and we where all in awe of her determination and resilience as she spent the past 3yrs recovering from horrific burns. She found a way around any obstacle and never quit. Behind the scenes Lesleys was working hard to bring our two townships together (Inglewood & Bridgewater) to deliver a fantastic ‘Run for Resilience’. No small feat, but she was so passionate about Active Farmers and wanted to share ‘it’ with everyone. And she had sneakily signed up to the 5k a week prior to her passing.
So we are honoured to announce that the ‘Bridgewater Run for Resilience’ will be dedicated to Lesley, and the 5k course will be named ‘Fittys 5’ in honour of our little Active Farmer Lesley ‘Fitty’ Morrison. Finisher medals will be hung on a pink zebra striped ribbon - representing both Lesleys famously colourful active wear and the brightness she bought into our lives.
