5 minutes with Kate Klug, our Active Farmers Trainer on Flinders Island

This week we caught up with our fantastic trainer Kate Klug, from Flinders Island who has shared some insight into her life and what to expect at Active Farmers on Flinders Island!!

Can you tell us a bit about you and where you grew up?

I'm one of 4 daughters who has been brought up on family farm flinders island. I've always had a love for food/nutrition and being outdoors. Flinders island is a gorgeous island on the top of NE Tas with a population of 800. I feel very spoilt to have been given the opportunity to live in this community!

Coming from a rural background, how does providing a service aimed at the rural community resonate with you?

It's about looking after my community & providing chances for them to focus on health - both physical and mental. I also want to help encourage them to believe in themselves and look at life with a positive outlook.

Have you got some tips about keeping inspired and motivated to exercise?

No excuses. We brush our teeth every day - make exercise part of your life. Even if it's only 10-20 mins some days each week you've done something. Keep exercise fun by involving yourself in a variety of activities - cardio, weight training, running, bike riding, bush walking, swimming, surfing - whatever you love. Lastly, find a mate who loves it too - great motivators & makes it a social outlet too.

Have you got some tips about getting yourself to class when you may have broken your routine after the festive season?

Set yourself weekly goals and don't be hard on yourself - we all need a break. Acknowledge you've broken your routine and focus on making it part of your life again. Focus on all the positives that are associated with fitness such as; more energy, endorphins, time to focus on YOU!

What advice would you give someone considering coming to your Active Farmers classes?

COME! Enjoy the opportunity to be part of a great bunch on individuals. Reminder the more you come the easier it becomes and the more you will get out of the experience. Don't be scared to challenge yourself - life is not about staying in your comfort zone. Embrace the challenge!

Can you talk a little about what to expect at your classes?

  •   HIIT/Strength - good all round full body workout which is forever changing and suitable for everyone. No class is ever the same so the body is always being challenged
  • Team sport - a good bunch of island individuals who come together to enjoy a variety of sports

How important do you think exercise and socialising is for the rural community?

Extremely. It is a Means of creating a group who can remind you that you aren't alone. It’s perfect to get together with like-minded people, time to focus on YOU & fill your cup up. Fitness builds self-esteem & belief in your ability and comradeship!
